What is blood flow restriction therapy?

Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) Therapy is a rehabilitation technique that uses specialized cuffs or bands to partially restrict blood flow to a limb during low-intensity exercise. This method offers unique benefits for recovery and muscle strengthening, particularly after injury or surgery. BFR allows patients to gain muscle strength and hypertrophy using much lighter resistance than normal, which is ideal for those who can't tolerate heavy weights due to injury, surgery, or pain. The partial blood flow restriction triggers an increase in growth hormone levels, promoting faster muscle repair and regeneration. This enhances recovery by preventing muscle atrophy and reducing loads on injured structures.

What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a technique that physical therapists use to treat myofascial pain. The technique uses a thin, flexible, “dry” needle, one without medication or injection, inserted through the skin into areas of the muscle, known as trigger points. Dry needling is not acupuncture, a practice based on traditional Chinese medicine and performed by acupuncturists. Dry needling is a part of modern Western medicine principles, and supported by research.
